Music reasearch

During the whole production of creating our trailer for our psychological thriller film, we had many ideas that changed during the planning, filming and editing. On the other hand when it came to the music, the idea of what sort of music that we originally planned stayed the same during the whole duration of the production, for instance, we planned on searching for music that obviously fitted well with a psychological thriller film, so the main aspects that we wanted in our music was slow, creepy and eerie sort of music. In our production, the only sound that is going to be used is the non-diegetic music that we were looking for, which will be played over the trailer.

It did actually take us a while to find the music, as we couldn't use any music that would be copyrighted, but then we found the website, www.freemusicarchive.org, which hold all different types of music that we could use as they wasn't copyrighted. We still wanted the same type of music and after searching for a while we found the music called Zoroaster meets the happy avenger by Bessemerr. the music was brilliant for our production as it fitted so well and showed all the aspects that we were looking for, such as it was slow, creepy and eerie.

target audience justification

Our target audience age justification: The reason why we chose the 17-30 years old target audience age range was so we could a much higher and wider range of different audiences. We chose the minimum ages to be 17 due to the fact that psychological thrillers are mainly known as complex and hard to understand with a gripping story-line which the viewers have to follow very carefully with detail throughout the duration of the film to understand and we felt that people younger than 17 would find it much harder to understand. The maximum ages was said to be 30 but we obviously expect older people to watch the film as well, we only put it down as 30 because, sub genre films such as psychological thrillers are more popular for the mid-twenties to 30 age group. We feel as if this age range would be the most suitable as they will be able to concentrate the whole time whilst keeping an open mind towards the movie until they grasp the whole outcome and justification of each decision and situation occurring throughout the film. Also another reason why we didn't put the age target audience to high is because we personally don't think that the older generations could stay concentrated with a film like ours and we think they'd quickly loose concentration as at an older age they are more set in their ways making it harder for them to be open-minded which could make the film boring and harder to understand as they loose track of what is happening in the story line.
Our target audience gender justification: Further the gender that we felt was most suitable for this film piece is the male gender as we feel we pushed certain decisions to suit them. This is all stereo-typically said and not our actual views but we had to build on the stereotypes to further suit the male themed genre. The reason why we felt our film would be more suited for the male gender is because we feel the the stereo-typical man could handle the visual and vulgar action happening on screen. This is because they have been opened up to this type of action from a young age allowing them to not be affected as much by the blood and gore being shown on screen which will lead for a more than pleasureful viewing experience for a audience member. However we advise whoever wants to watch the film to watch it with the risk of seeing negative actions and try to make sure that they enjoy the film as much as possible due to the originality of our made up story that we have put into film.

Risk assessment

Hazard
How is it a risk
Likelihood of occurrence
Severity of risk

(1 not serious 10 very serious)
Control measures
Driving a car on a wet muddy road

Driving a car on a wet muddy road can be a serious risk as it could potentially lead to the car slipping and hitting something or someone, which could lead to the person being hit getting injured and the person in the car also getting injured.
This could likely happen, especially because it was winter when we were filming and there was a lot more times where the weather was raining.
6
The only control measures that can be done is firstly either find a safer place to film or if the filming has to take place in the area where the road is wet and muddy, then whoever is driving the car must drive slowly and carefully.
Using dangerous props. E.G. Knives and ropes
This is a very serious risk if there are any accidents because if the person holding the props isn’t concentrating on what he or she is doing, he or she could easily cut another person.
Again this could be very likely because when it comes to props, especially like knives even if someone is slightly touched with the knife, this could still cause perhaps a very serious accident.
8
The only control measures that can be done when using dangerous props is simply be extra careful and always concentrate when using them. Another control measure is get hold a fake props especially props like knives.
Filming whilst moving up and down a flight of stairs
Even though this isn’t perhaps the most dangerous hazard, there is still a chance that it could lead to an accident which is why it is a risk. If someone is either walking up or down the stairs and they aren’t exactly concentrating as they are being filmed, this could lead to them tripping and falling down the stairs.
This could easily happen and the likelihood of occurrence is in fact very high.
4
The only control measure there is when it comes to walking up and down a staircase when being filmed is simply be extra careful.
Driving at night on an unlit road
Driving a car on a unlit road can be a serious risk as it could potentially lead to the car hitting something or someone as the driver may not be able to see, which could lead to the person being hit getting injured and the person in the car also getting injured as they could hit something big like a tree.
This could likely happen, especially because it was winter when we were filming and it became very dark very early into the day.
6
The only control measures that can be done is firstly either find a safer place to film where the roads are more lit or if the filming has to take place in the area where the road is unlit, then whoever is driving the car must drive slowly and carefully.

Locations/settings

In my media film trailer we used a variety of different locations and settings, so we could create a more detailed and open story line for any audience when they are watching the trailer. The use of certain settings and locations  gave a more tense and dramatic atmosphere to the trailer, which is the type of atmosphere you'd expect for a thriller type film. We used different setting and locations for many different reason:

  • The first location/setting that we used when filming was an empty field which we visited at different times, firstly in the middle of the day when it was light and then in the evening when it was dark. Using this empty field at  helped create a more tense atmosphere, because it allowed the audience to feel the loneliness of certain characters in the trailer.

  • Another location/setting that we used is the inside of a normal house and the neighbourhood, where we shot some scenes in different rooms around the house and outside of the house. Using a normal home allowed us to convey the fact that the main character who suffers with a split personality was once just a normal guy, but because of early traumatic moments in his life that occurred in the house, it then lead to his problems. The fact that we also involved the rest of the street or neighbourhood gave more tension to the scene because it made the audience feel as though there are other innocent people who have an equal chance of being put in danger. we got this idea again from the film Se7en as we felt that the use of the normal home gave more innocence to the film.

  • We also used a garage, where the main characters other personality tortures one of his victims. Using the garage was really done because it gave more tension to the scene.

  •  The last location/setting that was used was a flat where we shot some scenes simply to create a more dramatic affect and we also used this setting to create more tension in the trailer because we the used the flat to show a character being stalked by the main evil character. Doing this worked well especially in the flat because we were able to get some very effective shot which helped create more tension during the stalking. This idea was inspired by the film Se7en, where there is a chance seen in a flat or apartment type building.

costume list

In our film trailer, we didn't include very many characters as our film doesn't contain that many characters in general, but each character had there own specific costume which gave a better representation of there character and whether they were the main characters or less important characters, the costume that they were wearing was worn for a certain reason. For instance:

  • The main character which was played by two people who was Oliver Butler and Thomas Payne as they both play someone with a split personality. There costume was all black clothing which was done for two reason, such as it gave the character  that Oliver played a more mysterious and unknown personality, whereas the all black clothing that Thomas worn for the character that he played gave that character a better representation of that characters evil side.

  •  The other main character which was the detective in our film who was played by henry Vaudin. This character was the protagonist of the film, who was trying to work out, who is killing everyone, which means that this character has to be clever and informative. So to give Henry's character a clever and informative persona, the costume that he wore was all smart clothing to represent that he is a smart person. We gained the idea of this character from the film Se7en, as there was two characters played by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman who play the two protagonists who were undercover cops.

  • The other two characters that were involved in our film trailer were two characters who played victims of murder and torture, performed by the evil personality. These two character were important to our trailer but aren't important characters to our film and were simply innocent people who were unlucky enough to get involved with the evil split personality character. To show the two characters innocent personalities we decided to lets them wear there normally clothing, which represented there innocence and how they are unaware of what exactly is happening or what has happened to them.

Communication with others

When it came to the communication with other people involved with there were a variety of different ways, that we communicated with different people. For instance, the first thing we had to do before we started filming was to collect the camera and tripod and the only way we could get hold of the equipment is by signing this form stating who will be looking after the equipment, the phone number of the person looking after the equipment and that same persons signature.

For when it came to communicating about the actually filming which involved talking about what we were planning on filming, where we were going to film, who was going to be involved in the film and what times we were planning on film. When it came to communicating about these different  aspects we either spoke to each other in person or our main way of communicating was by talking in our Facebook messenger chat which is shown in the screenshot pictures below.
