1408 analysis

Synopsis 
 

The main storyline of the film is a man who specialises in searching for any type of paranormal activity and within the film he checks into an eerie looking room with the number 1408 in the dolphin hotel. During his stay in the room he experiences normal behaviour at the start, but as he starts to settle in the paranormal behaviour starts to kick into where even for a man who searches for paranormal activity he was still terrified. The film ends with the hotel room being destroyed by a fire, however Mike who is the main protagonist, manages to escape the room with all of the recording tapes in perfect condition.

Characters

Mike Enslin (The main character)

In the film John Cusack plays the character of Mike Enslin, who is a profound writer non-fiction stories based on the theme of haunted places and paranormal activities.

Katie Enslin (Mike's daughter)

 In the film Jasmine Jessica Anthony plays the character of Katie Enslin, who is the daughter of Mike Enslin. Within the film she is portrayed as alive even though she died of cancer, and see can see as alive in the film when the paranormal activities were taking place in room 1408.

Gerald Olin (The Hotel Manager)

In the film Samuel L. Jackson plays the character is Gerald Olin, within the film he is seen trying to dissuade Mike from checking into room 1408 because he was aware of the paranormal activity in the room and he didn't want mike to notice, this is due to fact that it would negative press for the hotel.

The Activity within room 1408

 With the room 1408 there had been over 30 deaths had been recorded over the years before Mike's arrival at the hotel. The manager was aware of this so when Mike arrived at the hotel he tried stop Mike from checking into that room, however Mike is a very stubborn character and risks his life by checking in anyway.

Paranormal Activity

During a section of dialogue within the film when Mike is in the room. Mike meets his daughter Katie after her death, this occurs during the destructive rampage scene were the walls and furniture come crashing down. After a while of being in the room a noticing paranormal activity Mike shows the signs of insanity settling in, due to fact of numerous hours of torment and excruciating pain and suffering.
